Triple Double Youth Basketball Association's Values We are a competitive basketball program created to promote virtuous purpose on and off the court. A virtue is a positive trait or quality deemed to be morally good. Virtues are the very meaning and purpose of our lives, the content of our character and trust expression of our souls.
Our goal is to prepare our youth for life experiences by stressing an aggressive style of team play that emphasizes the development of basic fundamentals, enhanced by mental and physical conditioning. Our demands as an organization carry beyond the basketball court and into the players academic and spiritual life.
We will accomplish all this by stressing the 5 core concepts of coaching.
1) Speak the Language of Virtue – Language shapes character. The way we speak and the words we use have the power to discourage or inspire. Coaches have the power to motivate and influence players, and we will challenge these players through trust and encouragement and teach through constructive feedback.
2) Recognize Teachable Moments - Recognizing the gifts and life lessons in our daily challenges at practice and in games helps us to cultivate our character. We use guilt only as a signal for change, not as a lifestyle! When we have the humility and confidence to learn from our mistakes, they become our best teachers. Every stumbling block becomes a stepping stone.
3) Set Clear Boundaries and Goals - Boundaries keep us safe, goals drive us to accomplish more. Virtues-based boundaries/goals focus on respect and confidence, and create a climate of orderliness and responsibility, in our relationships, on the court, at home, in school, and in the community. Personal boundaries/goals help us to build healthy relationships with teammates by understanding our roles.
4) Honor the Spirit - This strategy begins with respect for the dignity of each person (teammate, coach, referee, opposing player) and encourages us to make time for reflection, reverence, and appreciation. It is expressing what is meaningful in our lives by participating in the athletics, honoring special life events, and sharing our stories with our teammates. Coaches will choose a virtue (listed to the right) each month to focus on.
5) Coaching Through Formation - One of the greatest gifts as coaches we have to give is our presence -- our compassionate attentive listening. It is a form of sacred curiosity. By being deeply present and listening with both compassion and detachment, we help players accomplish their goals.
